Chronic pain often stems from a misfiring pain control system in the brain. Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT), a science-backed approach, targets this root cause by retraining neural pathways. Unlike acute pain, where the system effectively protects us, persistent pain can arise when this circuitry gets stuck, becomes overly sensitive, or triggers other symptoms such as fatigue, digestive issues or migraines.
PRT effectively resets this system, restoring normal pain processing and helping you return to the activities you love.

A randomized Clinical Trial at the University of Boulder tested PRT for chronic low back pain, examining its effects on pain levels and the brain. Participants, suffering for an average of 10 years, underwent fMRI scans. Compared to usual care or a placebo, PRT significantly reduced or eliminated chronic pain and altered pain processing in the brain. After just eight sessions in one month, the results were remarkable:
After 39 years of debilitating chronic pain, seeing scores of doctors, alternative therapists and trying everything from diet and lifestyle changes to drugs, and endless expensive tests, I found Jackie. My doctors had hinted that sometimes brains get stuck in a pain loop but couldn’t tell me what to do about it. Jackie brought the knowledge of modern pain science and simple techniques that helped me retrain my brain. In just 3 sessions my life was completely altered. It sounds unbelievable, but it’s true. I recommend her to everyone. I sometimes still have flares but I just employ her methods and achieve release again.
I started working with Jackie about a year and a half after I injured two of the discs in my lower back. I had been physically taking care of myself in all the ways prescribed by my doctor, including many months of physical therapy. I had made improvements but after all that time I was still in pain all the time and limited in my activities and movements. A friend introduced me to Pain Reprocessing and I decided it was worth a try. After seven sessions with Jackie I am almost 100% pain-free. Jackie is easy to talk with, empathetic, and great at explaining the science of pain in a way that is easy to understand. If you are dealing with pain that won't go away even after an injury has healed, I highly recommend reaching out to her. I am incredibly grateful to Jackie for helping me feel better and get my full life back!
I was in a dark space, completely hopeless having been diagnosed with yet another chronic pain syndrome. Through pain science education and pain reprocessing therapy (PRT), I began to understand the mind-body connection. I was in control and could heal myself. With Jackie’s expert guidance along the way, I did. Jackie will provide you with the tools and the support to calm down your nervous system and turn down the pain signals. Physical therapy, acupuncture and other complementary modalities are not going to help unless you change your relationship to pain. You might get worse before you get better, but Jackie will be your cheerleader and coach. Stick with the process and you will heal. When I first started working with her, I couldn’t hold a plate, could barely brush my teeth. Now, I’m back at the gym, 90% better in about 2 months. I 100% believe in PRT and only regret not having these tools over the last 25 years of my life! Thank you, Jackie!
After years of episodic chronic pain I had the worst and most terrifying flare of my life in late May of 2024. After listening to The Way Out I knew I had to find a better way through the pain and thankfully google led me to Jackie. We had an intake call the same day I found her online and I was immediately drawn to and soothed by her warm, friendly, down to earth and deeply evidence-based approach to curing chronic pain. Her scientific background was the cherry on top - getting to nerd out about new scientific papers and discoveries she would share with me on how I’m not irreparably broken really helped drive new pain free neural pathways home. I didn’t really believe her when she said someday I wouldn’t need her sessions regularly, and yet after about 9 months I have had minor flares on occasion that I’ve managed on my own with the PRT and EAET tools she has taught me. The thinking I had that I was doomed to fibromyalgia, hypermobile EDS and migraines forever has been disproven. I know I can always call her, and I do miss her at times(!) but I couldn’t be happier or more surprised to see that I’m not a “regular” anymore.
I thoroughly enjoyed working with Jackie Horridge for pain therapy. She offered a wealth of experience and expertise, and the resources she supplied were an immense help. Our sessions together opened me up to some interesting ideas, and we practiced different exercises together that made those concepts understandable and relatable. Because of her help, I am no longer even considering the possibility of surgery on my shoulders. I am making good progress with my range of motion, and I highly recommend Jackie as a pain coach.
I came to Jackie with a history of chronic migraine headaches and lower back pain. Our work together gave me so many skills with which to work through not only my physical pain, but my anxiety as well. Through PRT and the multitude of resources Jackie provided to reinforce the learning, I have nearly eliminated my use of prescription migraine medication and saved myself from even considering fusion surgery for my lower back. I’m so grateful!
One of the MS symptoms from my biggest exacerbation was when cold touched my legs. It felt like pain, like a cross between acid burn and electric shock. This got better, but returned over ten years later, after a stress induced relapse and remained cold-sensitive for six years. Jackie used PRT to playfully change my perception of pain while stepping into a cold lake. The sensation of pain went away and for a few years now I only sense cold again. It was like magic. I am so incredibly grateful!! The first test after my one session with her was a water slide park for my son’s birthday, with lots of cold water, and I was able to just have fun!
I injured my back when I was 12 (now 47) I’ve had quite bad pain on and off (mostly on) ever since. Following a bike crash and hip break I had 9 months of bad back pain in 12 months culminating in my 3rd slipped disk and the worst pain I’ve ever experienced. Feeling hopeless about my future and having tried everything else over the years and being recommended Jackie’s PRT, I thought I would give it a go. I had 6 sessions and did my homework and have been pain free for 2 months now. I’m back to doing all my regular activities including cycling, fell walking, gym, pilates and gardening. Thanks Jackie!
I would highly recommend Jackie's coaching: after working together for a few weeks, the techniques she taught me helped me effectively address the lower back pain and stiffness I had been experiencing for the past 8 months. A few months later, the pain is almost completely gone. Jackie also helped me address periodic carpal tunnel pain in my wrists, which alleviated what was a painful experience for me as I'm always on the computer for my job. Jackie is kind, caring, patient and genuinely passionate about her work, which makes working with her not feel like a chore.
Finding Jackie and her approach to managing my blepharospasm was a breath of fresh air. My symptoms were so pathologized and I totally believed that there was something fundamentally wrong with me, my brain, my body. The reframing and self compassion approach turned all of that around and in short order, my symptoms got much better and some days were gone completely. I highly recommend Jackie and this approach for anyone dealing with chronic pain or other mind-body conditions.
Jackie is kind, present, responsive, and clearly deeply knowledgeable about chronic pain. She brought her own personal experience along with training in Pain Reprocessing Therapy to conduct a thorough assessment of my unique pain journey, and helped me chart a course forward. She is compassionate to the immense difficulty inherent to working with pain, and brings clarity and steady guidance. I have experienced at least a 75% reduction in pain, and am confident that we're on the right track. Highly recommend it!!.
From the very first session with Jackie, I felt supported in a way that was both transformative and lasting. I can count the sessions we’ve had on one hand, yet the results spoke volumes. Her approach goes far beyond pain management—it’s about empowerment to solve the root causes of pain with wisdom, compassion, and a focus on true transformation. Jackie’s ability to connect and address root causes (not just symptoms), brought me clarity and immediate relief. Her presence and guidance extend far beyond coaching—a true gift that continues to impact me every day.
I am myself a provider of PRT- but before I added PRT to my practice, I wanted to experience PRT myself for my own long standing chronic back pain. I chose to work with Jackie Horridge because I knew she had something most providers don’t have- which is decades of research about neuroscience and pain (that, and a PhD in biology). After I engaged with her in ten sessions, my pain stopped sneaking up on me every week- and I was no longer restricted by the fear of pain. Effective and groundbreaking therapy and I highly recommend Jackie to provide PRT – and extra insights- to anyone suffering from chronic pain.
My story is probably all too familiar. Over 18 months ago, I thought I injured my back in the gym, and suffered through a battle of lingering sciatica. Since I saw a herniated disc on my MRI, I was constantly facing doubts whether something structurally could not be fixed and I’d be dealing with this pain forever. I desperately wanted to go back to the gym and return to activities I love, but was too afraid that I would just make my pain worse. Finally, after trying so many “traditional” methods I found PRT and Jackie. Being the son of two MDs, I struggled buying into the idea that this pain could be fixed with mental exercises, but traditional PT failed me and I was ready to go all in. I found Jackie’s background as a phD particularly helpful, as we were able to dive into my doubts, and she was able to provide countless resources to help me get over whatever issues I presented. I can say that while I still have a flare up here and there, I’ve learned this is completely normal, and am confident I have the tools to get over whatever comes my way. I am so grateful to have found Jackie and hope anyone with lingering pain or symptoms gives her teachings a shot! The body is quite resilient, but sometimes the mind needs to be retrained that you are ok!
In the beginning I was skeptical. My pain and injuries are real, I said. The more I learned about pain therapy, the more I realized that I was holding on to my idea of my injury and that may not match reality. I've had pain in both ankles from various injuries over time. I told myself, 'that’s just the way it is' and my brain was happy to comply with those thoughts. Jackie really helped me to understand the connection between my thoughts and my pain. I used to approach my pain very adversarially, I would curse my ankle verbally. Now I think about pain, when it occurs, much more compassionately. Although the pain is not gone, it is significantly reduced and I don't constantly think about my ankles. Thanks Jackie!
I loved working with you Jackie! It really helped me to think about my pain differently and I am constantly in reflection on how it is all signals to my brain that is interpreting things - sometimes inaccurately or following old routes of pain. The mindful ability to notice and be with, while titrating back and forth between good sensations is an excellent tool in managing not only pain but trauma. My low back pain has been significantly less since we worked together and I’m grateful to know I can come back anytime to work on things that arise! Thank you!
I hired Jackie as a coach because I wanted to make big changes to my lifestyle, but I had lost the faith in myself that I needed to make those changes. Jackie taught me how to envision my ideal life and set goals to get me there. She helped me to learn from setbacks instead of beating myself up for them. Jackie cares about my well-being, believes in me, and checks in with me between sessions. With her help, I radically changed my diet, my relationship to substances, and the amount of exercise I get. I am healthier and feel better in my body, and through my work with Jackie I regained faith in myself to make change and be the person I want to be. I have recommended Jackie to friends and family because I know she can help anyone improve their own lives.
